A dynamic start to our "Volunteer Days"

On Saturday, November 2nd, we kicked off our new Volunteer Days program with an inspiring and productive event! A dedicated group of volunteers joined us at the Mt. Hymettus Aesthetic Forest to remove Ailanthus altissima—the invasive tree of heaven—from a slope near the Kaisariani Monastery. This species poses a significant threat to Greece’s native biodiversity, growing aggressively and outcompeting local flora. Thanks to the hard work of our volunteers, we took an important step toward restoring ecological balance in this precious area.

The day was more than just action—it was also an opportunity to learn. Volunteers discovered more about the important conservation work Philodassiki does to protect and maintain the Aesthetic Forest. From preserving its biodiversity to safeguarding its natural beauty, this work is critical to ensuring the forest remains a haven for both wildlife and people.

We’re thrilled to invite you to be part of this journey with us at our next Volunteer Day on Saturday, December 7th. While the specific activity will differ from this past event, it will be just as rewarding, with opportunities to contribute meaningfully and connect with nature. Visit our volunteering page for more information on how to apply, and let’s continue making a difference together!
